WHAT WE DO.
  • What We Do

Continue reading for a compilation of services we provide here at Edmondson Engineers.

  • Containment Facilities

Containment design includes differential pressure control, bag in and bag out HEPA, and charcoal filtration techniques.

  • Laboratory Facilities

Edmondson Engineers has designed several laboratory facilities including electronics labs, wet chemistry labs, and fungal genomics labs. A major laboratory facility on the NCSU Centennial Campus is currently under design.

  • Clean Rooms/Isolation Facilities

Our project portfolio includes over 100,000 square feet of clean rooms ranging from Class 10 to Class 100,000, differential space pressure, temperature control to less than 0.5°F, relative humidity control to 2%, “clean” steam systems for humidification and other special systems.

  • UPS Systems

UPS systems with capacities ranging from 6 KVA to 625 KVA with total capacities in excess of 3,000 KVA have been designed for projects ranging from critical processes to computer rooms and life safety systems.

  • Building Electrical Systems

Lighting systems, fire alarm systems, nurses call systems, security systems, PA systems, AV systems, telecommunications/data, and site lighting. POS systems, emergency and exit lighting systems, motor control centers, VFDs, solid state starters, distribution systems and switch gear.

  • Standby Power Systems

Emergency generators with capacities ranging from 60 KW to 2,000 KW with a total capacity in excess of 5,000 KW have been designed for projects in the Research Triangle area. We have also designed generators for a local client’s facility in California.

  • Medium Voltage Distribution

A recent project included 12,470V site distribution with three (3) 5,000 ampere, 3,750 KVA 460 volt double-ended unit substations and one (1) 2,000 ampere, 4,160 volt double-ended substation.

  • Building HVAC Design

HVAC system design experience includes hundreds of industrial and advanced technology installations. Preconditioned air units utilizing dew point control enable very close tolerance humidity control systems.

  • Programming

Development of mechanical and electrical systems begins with the programming phase to address system issues such as technology, quality, reliability, redundancy, budget, etc. P&ID’s are developed very early in the design process.

  • Performance Contracting

Edmondson Engineers was the designer member of a performance contract team which resulted in the complete retrofit of the NC Museum of Art chiller and boiler plant. The existing 1,600-ton chiller plant was replaced with a 1,000-ton plant featuring variable flow primary pumping and variable speed drive on one chiller. One chiller is equipped with an economizer which permits cooling in low ambient conditions by operating the cooling towers without operating the chiller. Two existing 600-hp steam boilers were replaced with five (5) modular hot water boilers which are staged based on load. A new DDC control system was also installed. Preliminary indications are that the projected energy savings will be realized.

  • Data Centers

A new data center for RENCI utilizing high density computer room air conditioning techniques had recently been completed. A computer room renovation for Hanson is under construction.

  • Process Exhaust Systems Design

Our staff has designed several process exhaust systems that address the issues of redundancy, pressure relationships, fume scrubbers, burn boxes, and special duct and fan construction.

  • Fuse and Breaker Coordination

Proper coordination of the electrical distribution system over-current devices is a key element in the selection of the system components.

  • Central Energy Plant Design

A central energy plant including a 4,400-ton chilled water facility and a 900hp steam boiler facility has been recently completed for an RTP based industrial client. Chilled water distribution systems include primary, secondary, and tertiary pumping and piping with variable speed pumps and controls.
